How to find businesses without a website in Perth
Perth is a long, thin city with a lot of tradies in it. From Two Rocks down to Mandurah is over 100 kilometres of suburbs, and in every one of them there are businesses on Google Maps with a phone number, a few dozen reviews and no website. Someone searches "electrician Rockingham", the list comes up, and the ones with a site get the click.
If you build websites in Perth, those are your leads. This is how to find them without doing it one listing at a time.
Where to look
Perth's newer suburbs are where the newer businesses are, and newer businesses are the ones most likely to have started with a Facebook page and never moved past it.
- The south. Rockingham, Baldivis, Kwinana, Mandurah, Cockburn, Success. Big growth over the last fifteen years, heavy on trades and on the businesses that serve new estates: fencing, landscaping, reticulation, pool care, mowing.
- The north. Joondalup, Wanneroo, Butler, Alkimos, Yanchep, Ellenbrook. Same pattern, and less picked over.
- The south east. Armadale, Byford, Gosnells, Thornlie, Canning Vale. Long-established trades with long review histories, and a lot of the "word of mouth is enough" objection.
- The hills. Kalamunda, Mundaring, Midland. Smaller lists, but businesses there often serve the whole eastern side and are used to customers who found them on Google.
The inner and western suburbs (Subiaco, Leederville, Fremantle, Cottesloe) have the cafes and salons and also the most competition from other designers. Scan for hospitality and beauty, but the trades in the outer suburbs will pay for your week.
The manual way
Search Google Maps, click each listing, look for the website button, write down the ones that do not have it. Roughly a minute each. Fine for a first go, and you should do a few by hand so you know what the script is doing. Not fine for every Monday.
The API way
The Places API gives a script the same listings as Maps. Send "electrician in Rockingham WA", get back up to 60 businesses with name, phone, rating, review count, whether they are open, and the website if there is one.
A script keeps the ones with no website (or only a Facebook, Instagram or hipages page, which do not count), drops the closed and the phoneless, and scores the rest. Mobile number, review count, rating, and whether they have any web presence at all. The top of the sorted list is a call sheet; the bottom is a business with a landline, two reviews and a 3.1 rating that you can leave for another day.
Cost: 1,000 free Google requests a month at the tier that includes website and phone, a scan is two or three requests, so about 330 scans a month free and around 16 cents each after. That is far more scanning than anyone can ring.

Making the calls
Perth trades start early and, for anyone working FIFO-adjacent or on sites, very early. Try 6:45 to 7:15 in the morning, or 3:30 to 5 when they are in the ute. Cafes after 2. Salons mid-morning midweek.
Have their listing open. One sentence on who you are. One specific observation: "you have 28 reviews and no website, and the electricians above you in the Rockingham search all have one". The price and the turnaround. Ask if you can text a link to a site you built for a similar trade. Stop.
If they say yes, one text or one email, that day, with your name, your business, your number, and a plain opt-out. The Spam Act covers commercial email and SMS in Australia: consent, identification, unsubscribe. A yes on the phone is consent. An email address on a listing is not a safe substitute. One message, no follow-up sequence.
Perth notes
- Add WA. "Rockingham" is also in Queensland. "Kingsley", "Beckenham" and "Armadale" exist elsewhere.
- Distances. A Baldivis plumber will not drive to Joondalup. Own a corridor, north or south, and say so on the call: "I build sites for tradies south of the river".
- Reticulation, pool care, bore work, limestone walls. Perth-specific trades that almost never have a website and almost always have a mobile number. Good, cheap, quick sites.
- Mining and FIFO. A lot of Perth trades do FIFO swings and run a small business in between. They are hard to reach but, if you get them, they have money and no time, which is exactly the customer for "you do not have to write anything".
